Director
Engela Edwards has a BFA in Theater. Since 1999, Engela has produced
65 production (including 24 world premières) with her company EASY
Theatre which has performed in 33 venues. Engela started doing shows in
Bastrop in 2001. Since that time she's produced and co-produced 38
productions at the Bastrop Opera House, including 15 world premieres; some
of which she wrote or co-wrote. Engela Edwards theatre resumes:

Performance (Youth ages 5-8) Show Chosen:Down
in the Dumps a musical by Dan Roberts
Your
child will be rehearsing a musical with director/choreographer Engela Edwards.
Weekly rehearsals at the middle school, additional daily Tech and Dress
rehearsals the week of the show, and Performance dates are required. Rehearsal
CD provided. You will provide your childs’ costume. (Easy Bright
colored kids' summer clothes without words or logos, and barefoot.)
The
musical Down in the Dumps has lively music and wonderful story. Pink's
Junk Yard, owned by crotchety old Miss Pinkle, is the perfect playground
for a group of neighborhood children. Unfortunately, the County Court is
threatening to take away the children's good times and Miss Pinkle's livelihood,
because she has not complied with the Beautification Ordinance. It is up
to the children to salvage thier playground. In this musical the
children are the stars.

Learn
theater while doing theater! This is a rehearsal class
ending in multiple performances of a musical. Teaching director Engela
Edwards designed this course so busy adults have an opportunity to perform.
This fun project is perfect for performers of every experience level.
You provide your talent, energy, positive attitude, and costume. Performers
must be able to attend weekly rehearsals during the semester, plus nightly
rehearsals the week leading into the performances.

Absences:

While being
at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory, we know illness
and emergencies happen. We expect that if and actor is sick that
they stay home, but call the director. Actors must be fever, diarrhea,
and vomiting free for 24 hours before coming to a rehearsal.

Director
Edwards will consider each case individually to determine if missed rehearsal
will keep a actor from performing his role.

Director
Edwards must be informed at registration if there are ANY rehearsal
or performance conflicts.

Enrolling
in Engela's Wednesday shows:
-
Pay the
$50 non-refundable deposit due at registration by clicking the deposit
button below. This will hold your place in the cast/class/rehearsal slot.
You are committing to paying the entire semester fee.
-
A registration
form will be emailed to you for you to complete and return after you have
paid your deposit. When you pay and return your form then you will
be registered. (Or after you've returned work scholarship forms and
your registration form, then you will be considered registered.)
-
Full payment
of the balance is due by the first day of rehearsals, unless
a payment plan has been arranged in advance. $25 late fee if not
paid (or written payment arrangements made) by the first day of rehearsals.

Work
scholarships and payment plans can easily be arranged. Contact

Cancellations:
When
you register for a rehearsal slot, you are committing to the whole fee.
-
In our attempt
to make this experience affordable, we keep optional expense like tickets,
videos (if available), and costumes, separate from registration fees.
These fees do not cover the cost of the project, so we will expect you
to sell tickets and program ads for the show!
-
Because
of the economy, Engela reduced class fees last semester by 25% and offered
more scholarships even though there was a waiting list. She is continuing
at the reduced price this semester also.
-
Everyone
in the audience must have a ticket.
-
You provide
your
costume which must be completely ready and worn to rehearsal
on the date noted in class description.
-
INSTRUCTOR
reservest the right to make changes until there is someone signed up for
the group.
Wednesday
Morning Rehearsal Groups: (Ages 5-99)
On
Wednesday,
January 27, new students come at 9 a.m. and returning students come
at 10 a.m. All stay until Noon. Bring a bottle of water.
Director will then choose and cast the show/shows and email you when your
rehearsals will be for the remainder of the semester. Your rehearsals
will not be shorter than one hour nor longer than two hours. Your
actual weekly rehearsals could as early as 9 a.m. and end as late as 1
p.m. If you have special time constraints within that time period
(such as you can't get there until 11 a.m. or you have to leave by Noon),
then you must inform director on the registration form. If Engela
does not have a rehearsal slot for the performer that will fit their noted
time
constraints, your deposit will be refunded. Shows chosen, cast, and
scheduled based on participants registered.

"Wanna
Be a Star?" Learn to shine at the Bastrop Opera House.
The
instructor is Janet Spencer, a veteran with 45 years experience in
the professional theatre as an actor, director, manager and educator.
Ms. Spencer has worked on and off Broadway, in regional theatre, on tour
and on campuses in several states. She holds degrees from Barnard
College and the University of Houston. She considers herself blessed
to have studied acting with Michael Howard, a brilliant teacher in the
tradition of Constantin Stanislavski and Stella Adler.
BEGINNING
ACTING (adults)
Beginning
acting is an introduction to the craft. Ten workshop sessions will
familiarize you with exercises used by professional actors to achieve the
sense of truth that makes their work intriguing. Learn to relax,
to focus, to free your imagination, and more. When you have learned
the basics, you will be invited to join a scene study class, where students
have on-going opportunities to practice their craft and grow as performers.

Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. until Noon beginning January 30, 2010

age 18 and over is welcome, regardless of your experience or lack thereof.
